National Center for Injury Prevention and Control Research Portfolio Reviews

Public Health

Period of Performance: October 2013 – May 2017

Cloudburst is providing evaluation support to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) in regards to their research program portfolios. The goals of the research portfolio reviews are to: 1) assess focus, quality, and practice relevance of NCIPC’s research program portfolios in selected topic areas; 2) assess the outcomes of research programs, 3) identify gaps, redundancies, and other areas for improvement in the portfolios, and 4) assess the allocation of resources and infrastructure to support the portfolio review topic. The topic of the current portfolio review is the Injury Center’s Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS). The overall goal is to obtain actionable recommendations to guide NCIPC’s planning and allocation of resources for research programs in the selected topic areas.

NCIPC convened a portfolio workgroup whose members serve as subject matter experts and key informants concerning data collection efforts. Cloudburst supported Battelle and the portfolio workgroup in planning and implementing the review design, analyzing data, and drafting the Portfolio Review report in preparation for an expert panel meeting. Cloudburst provided meeting coordination for the NCIPC portfolio review expert panel, through creation and distribution of meeting materials and other documents and support during the work group. Cloudburst also provided a summary of recommendations from the meeting for inclusion in the Portfolio Review Report.
